Fearful Flyers

Fear of Flying

The Albany International Airport, in conjunction with Dr. Shirley McMorris, Ph.D., offers a course designed to assist inexperienced air travelers overcome their fear of flying. It has been estimated that up to one in six adults in the United States has a fear of flying. For some, the fear is a phobia, an overwhelming fear that experts say can result in panic attacks.

The course is conducted by Dr. Shirley McMorris, Ph.d. of Karner Psychological Associates. The program is open to businesses and individuals. The program includes group counseling sessions at the Airport and a walking tour of a Southwest Airlines 737. The program also includes a “graduation” flight to Baltimore.

The next classes will be held on October 3 and October 10, 2007 with a graduation flight scheduled for Saturday, October 13, 2007.

There is a fee for the program. Interested individuals should contact Dr. McMorris at 518 456-5056.
