Albany, NY (January 15, 2003) - - - Rev. Michael A. Farano, Chairman of the
Albany County Airport Authority today announced the establishment of the
Albany International Airport Foreign Currency Exchange. The service will
enable travelers to exchange U.S. currency for foreign currency.
"The volume of international passenger traffic continues to increase at
Albany International Airport continues to increase. The convenience of a
foreign currency exchange will be a beneficial addition to the services we
provide our passengers," said Rev. Michael A. Farano, Chairman of the Albany
County Airport Authority.
The Foreign Currency Exchange will operate through the Airport's Business
Center located on the C-Concourse. Travelers with valid airline tickets
will have immediate access to the Business Center to make transactions.
Individuals that do not possess a valid ticket or are planning to make
sizable transactions should contact the Business Center at 518 242-4488 to
arrange for an appointment.
The Airport's Business Center can immediately exchange U.S. dollars for
British pounds, Euro's, Yen and Canadian currency. The program will also
enable passengers to exchange the same foreign currencies for U.S. dollars.
Other currencies can be ordered by contacting the Business Center at least
three days before the currency is needed. No coins will be accepted.
A modest service fee totaling 1% of the transaction will be charged. There
will be a minimum service fee of $5. The daily exchange rates will be
posted in the Business Center.
Travelers can obtain foreign currency abroad by using approved credit cards
or ATM (automatic teller machine) card. When using an ATM abroad, travelers
should be sure the system is connected to the same network as their U.S.
bank. In addition, using a credit card when making purchases abroad will
enable travelers to avoid currency exchanges and will ensure they receive
the current exchange rate.
