Albany, NY (February 6, 2002) - - - US Airways Express has resumed non-stop service from Albany International Airport to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.. Service to Reagan National was suspended September 11th following the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center.
"The resumption of service to Reagan National restores a vital and essential Capital Region link to the nation's capital," said Rev. Michael A. Farano, Chairman of the Albany County Airport Authority.
Prior to September 11th, US Airways operated three daily non-stop flights to Reagan National. Under the new schedule, US Airways Express has resumed service with one flight each day. Full service is expected to be restored in March.
The initial schedule will operate with Dash-8 turboprop aircraft that will make the trip to Washington in one hour and 45 minutes. The daily flight departs Albany International Airport at 11:55 a.m.. US Airways has indicated the possibility that the flights may return to jet service in the future.
Albany International Airport now operates 125 daily flights to 29 non-stop and 21 one-stop destinations. While the events of September 11th resulted in an immediate decline in both air service and passengers, the Airport quickly recovered and ended the year 2001 with a 5.2% increase in enplanements.
Passenger loads continue to increase and the Airport is preparing for a boost in traffic during the busy President's Week vacation period.
