NEW "HOLIDAY" SUPER ECONOMY PARKING AT ALBANY INTERNATIONAL
Albany NY-- (April 15, 1999) - - Reverend Michael A. Farano, Chairman of the Albany County Airport Authority today announced the opening of a new "Holiday" Super Economy parking lot to serve travelers at the Albany International Airport. The new lot will be opened during traditionally high traffic periods such as holidays and spring breaks.
When in service, the new "Holiday" lot will provide parking on a "pay in advance" basis. Super Economy rates will be $4 per day with a maximum of $20 per week.
"The upcoming school vacation week is expected to result in a significant increase in passengers as families take advantage of the spring break to travel," said Rev. Farano. "Our 'Holiday' Super Economy lot will provide the additional parking space that will be required to accommodate the increase in automobiles during this peak travel period."
The new "Holiday" Super Economy parking lot will be serviced by the Airport's Shuttle Buses. Buses will make frequent stops at the lot to transport individuals directly to the terminal. Passengers will also be shuttled back to their vehicles upon returning to the airport. The new lot is located near the existing Signature Air Terminal.
Passengers traveling during the anticipated busy period, April 15th-25th, should be prepared to arrive at the airport at least one hour before their flights leave to ensure their baggage is properly checked and their tickets are in order. Travelers should also be aware of new airline regulations that restrict the amount of carry-on luggage that can be stowed in the cabin bins.
In addition to the new "Holiday" Super Economy lot, the airport has begun a parking improvement program that includes the repaving the existing surface parking lots and new landscaping.
The Airport's recently opened new five-story parking garage has proven to be a huge success. The garage officially opened on February 3rd and was completely filled within three days. The Albany County Airport Authority Board has authorized a study to determine if a planned two-story addition to the garage should be expanded to five stories. If such an addition is approved, it would bring the garage's total capacity to 2300 vehicles.
"We believe the additional three stories will be necessary," said Rev. Farano. "But before we take any action, we want to be sure that any new construction will generate sufficient revenue to offset the cost."
