Albany, NY (July 2, 2003) - - - Albany International Airport is entering the
busy summer travel season with a word of caution to travelers. Passengers
are being urged to arrive at the Airport terminal at least 90 minutes before
their scheduled early morning and afternoon departures to allow ample time
to park, check their baggage and pass through the security checkpoint.
"July and August are customarily Albany International Airport's busiest
travel months of the year," said Rev. Michael A. Farano, Chairman of the
Albany County Airport Authority. "We are committed to ensuring that travel
continues to be a pleasant experience but it is essential that travelers
assist us by allowing sufficient time to account for essential security
procedures."
During July and August, approximately 5,000 passengers are expected to board
planes each day at Albany International Airport. The Airport's peak
travel hours are 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Passengers should be aware that new explosive detection devices at
the Airport are extremely sensitive. Individuals that may have had even
casual contact with personal fireworks can trigger detection devices and be
subject to further time consuming inspections.
Travelers are advised that under new FAA regulations, passengers are allowed
to carry only one piece of luggage and one personal item through the
security checkpoint. A personal item may include a laptop computer, handbag,
briefcase or backpack.
To speed passage through the security checkpoint, the Transportation
Security Administration (TSA) has offered the following travel tips:
- Arrive at the security checkpoint with a BOARDING PASS.
- Put metal IN your carry-on bag. This includes jewelry, loose change, keys, mobile phones, pagers, and personal data assistants (PDAs).
- Take OUT your laptop computer. Place it in a bin, separate from its carrying case.
- Take OFF your outer coat. Place it in a bin. Suit jackets and blazers do not have to be removed, unless requested by the screener.
