Albany, NY (August 2, 2007) - - - Albany International Airport today became the seventh airport in the nation to begin offering a Registered Traveler (RT) program. Clear®, the nation’s leader in providing RT service, was selected by the Albany County Airport Authority and began operating its passenger checkpoint lane at Albany International Airport early this morning. The Clear lane provides registered travelers with expedited passage through Airport security at Albany and several other airports.
“Albany International Airport is delighted to be among the first airports in the nation to offer our travelers the advantages of the Clear registered traveler program,” said David E. Langdon, chairman of the Albany County Airport Authority. “Clear will enable our passengers to better plan their trips by offering immediate access to the Transportation Security Administration security checkpoint here in Albany and at many of the major connecting hubs that serve Albany-bound passengers.”
Clear began the process of registering Albany International Airport travelers in mid July. Travelers can begin the registration process at the Clear kiosk located in the Airport’s ticketing area or by going on-line to www.flyclear.com.
To complete their registration, individuals must present two forms of acceptable government-issued identification, one of which must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent foreign residency, at the Clear registration kiosk. A passport is a preferred form of identification. At that time, Clear will photograph and capture the applicant’s biometrics (fingerprint and iris images). The Clear enrollment station is located in the ticketing area on the first level of the terminal. Its hours of operation are 5am-7pm daily.
Travelers who register for Clear are prescreened by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). When approved, the applicant is issued a biometric card that will identify them as a pre-screened traveler and enable them to use the Clear lane for passage through the TSA checkpoint.
Clear has established a 12-month user fee of $99.95 of which $28 is a TSA vetting fee. Clear’s lease with Albany International Airport includes office space, as well as space to operate the Clear Registration kiosk and the Clear checkpoint lane. Clear will pay the Airport Authority $90,000 per year under terms of the agreement.
Clear now operates fast lanes at Orlando, JFK, San Jose, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Newark. Clear will open additional fast lanes in Little Rock and Westchester this month and LaGuardia in September. Clear cards purchased at any location can be used at all Clear registered traveler airports.
