AIRPORT GALLERY SEARCHES FOR UNUSUAL COLLECTIONS

Albany, NY (August 27, 2001) - - - The Albany International Airport's Art and Culture Program has turned to the residents of the Capital Region in a wide spread search for the area's most unique and unusual collections. If chosen, these peculiar and exceptional collections will be featured in the Art & Culture Program's upcoming Airport "Collections" exhibition which will appear in the Airport Gallery from November 5, 2001 - February 24, 2002.

"The Gallery is seeking personal collections that are outstanding in their uniqueness and absurdity," said Sharon Bates, director of the Airport's Art and Culture Program. "We're looking for anything from Pez candy dispensers to glass insulators, to unusual miniatures of the mundane. Nothing will be too ordinary for consideration for this exhibition."

For centuries, collecting has been the pursuit of princes and apothecaries, scholars and amateurs alike. However, in many basements, closets, attics and garages across the region lurk private collections that may be obsessive, adored and admired that wait to be revealed. The Albany International Airport is ready to present them in the Airport Gallery for the world to see.

To be considered for the exhibition, please send a one-page description of your collection including how it got started, how many pieces it includes, what makes your collection unusual and how long you have been accumulating the items. Please include photos of your collection items and yourself, unless you prefer to remain anonymous. Visits will be scheduled in early October and the final selection of collections will be made by the Art and Culture Program.

Please be prepared to part with your treasures for almost four months. The payoff will come when thousands of travelers revel at your keen eye and collecting skills. Send your submissions by September 14, 2001 to:
