Albany, NY (November 3, 2003) - - - Rev. Michael A. Farano, chairman of the Albany County Airport Authority today announced that Delta Airlines will expand service at Albany International Airport beginning early next year. Delta will add a fourth daily non-stop flight from Atlanta’s Hartsfield International Airport to Albany beginning on January 7, 2004.
In May of this year, representatives of the Airport Authority met with Delta officials to request the additional flight citing the need for an earlier arrival time in Albany to permit business travelers to meet with clients and return to Atlanta on the same day. The additional Delta Flight will depart Atlanta at 9:32 a.m. and arrive in Albany at 11:43 a.m. The total flight time is 2 hours and 11 minutes. The new flight returns to Atlanta at 12:30 p.m.
"This additional flight is an example of the continued commitment that both Delta and the Airport have made to keep pace with the region’s economic growth and to expand vital air service to upstate New York," said Rev. Farano.
Delta has also announced an upgrade in service between Albany and Cincinnati. Beginning January 7, Delta will replace its existing regional jet with a 98-seat Boeing 737. Delta currently offers three daily flights to Cincinnati.
Delta boarded 185,306 passengers at Albany International Airport in 2002 which amounted to 12.5% of all Airport enplanements during that year. Delta’s year-to-date enplanements have risen 1.7% over the past year.
