Albany, NY (Nov. 26, 2002) - - - Passenger traffic at Albany International
Airport during November and the Thanksgiving holiday weekend is expected to
be stronger than last year. The American Automobile Association estimates
that nationwide, 5.1 million people will fly over the Thanksgiving weekend,
an increase of 6% over last year.
"The Airport and the Transportation Security Administration have
implemented a number of positive steps to help ensure each passenger's trip
home for the holidays is enjoyable," said Rev. Michael A. Farano, Chairman
of the Albany County Airport Authority. "Foremost, the number of checkpoint
screeners has been increased, checkpoint equipment has been enhanced to help
speed the security screening process and additional economy parking is now
available."
When preparing for a flight, passengers should follow these simple
guidelines:
- Check the status of your flight before leaving for the airport
- Arrive at least 1 ½ hours before your flight during peak travel times (early morning and afternoons) to check in at the ticket counter
- Bring a photo ID with you for check in
- Only two carry-on items will be allowed through the security checkpoint
- Pack sharps or metal items in checked luggage
- Place identification on outside and inside of luggage
- Be sure to allow time between flights to make connections
Travelers are also reminded that all packages including gift packages are
subject to search. Therefore, passengers intending to carry holiday gift
packages on flights are urged not to wrap the packages until they reach
their final destination.
