AIRPORT READIES FOR BUSY HOLIDAY SEASON

Albany, NY (Dec. 19, 2000) - - - The Albany County Airport Authority has completed construction of a 233 car addition to its popular Economy E-Lot in time for the busy holiday travel period. The additional parking spaces will be necessary to accommodate what could be the Airport's busiest Christmas and New Year travel period ever.

"We anticipate that a record number of holiday travelers will take advantage of our lower fares and additional flights during the next two weeks," said Rev. Michael A. Farano, Chairman of the Albany County Airport Authority. "The holidays are an exciting time and we plan to make this year's travel experience a pleasant one."

Last year, 86,000 passengers boarded planes at Albany International airport during December. This December, the Airport Authority is planning for at least 110,000 enplanements.

Travelers will again be able to enjoy a variety of musical groups that are scheduled to perform at the Airport between now and New Years Day. The performers will include students from area schools, professional musicians, senior groups and even a visit by Scrooge and an Elvis impersonator. Saxophone Santa will also entertain travelers during the holiday season.

There are a number of things travelers can do to make their flights more enjoyable during the busy holiday season. When planning a flight, passengers should follow these simple guidelines:

  • Check the status of your flight before leaving for the airport
  • Arrive at least an hour before your flight to check in at the ticket counter
  • Bring a photo ID with you for check in
  • Make sure any carry-on luggage meets airline size specifications
  • Place identification on outside and inside of luggage
  • Be sure to allow time between flights to make connections
  • Do not wrap holiday gifts prior to flight

Travelers are also reminded that all packages including gift packages are subject to search. Therefore, passengers intending to carry holiday gift packages on flights are urged not to wrap the packages until they reach their final destination. In some cases, airline security may find it necessary to open the package for inspection and that could damage the decorative wrappings.
