Albany, NY (Dec. 29, 2001) - - - Rev. Michael A. Farano, Chairman of the
Albany County Airport Authority today announced that Continental Connection
and US Airways Express will add a total of six flights to the rebounding
schedule at Albany International Airport. The additional flight
destinations include Boston, Burlington, LaGuardia and the resumption of
non-stop air service to Washington's Reagan National Airport.
"Continental Connection has shown consistent growth in both destinations and
passenger volume since beginning operations at Albany International Airport
just one year ago," said Rev. Farano. "The restoration of US Airways
Express non-stop service to Washington's Reagan National airport will once
again provide Capital Region businesses, government agencies and leisure
travelers with a direct link to the nation's capital."
Continental Connection will add one flight to Burlington, increasing its
daily service from three to four flights and add one flight to Boston which
will increase service from two to three daily flights. With the additional
flights, Continental Connection will be operating 42 daily flights from
Albany International Airport. Continental Connection is operated by
CommutAir for Continental Airlines.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has approved the resumption of US
Airways non-stop service from Albany International Airport to Washington's
Ronald Reagan National Airport beginning March 1. U.S. Airways operated
three daily flights to Reagan National when service was suspended September
11th. US Airways Express will resume service with three daily flights to
Reagan National. Reagan National reopened to limited service on October 4th
when flights were resumed to eight cities.
US Airways Express will also add one daily flight to LaGuardia Airport in
January, bringing its schedule to four flights a day.
With the above additional service, Albany International Airport will be
offering passengers a choice of 124 daily flights.
