Albany International Airport 518-242-2222 dmyers@albanyairport.com General Aviation Expansion at Albany International Airport06/05/2007 Albany, NY (June 5, 2007) - - - The Albany County Airport Authority will more than double its available private hangar space for General Aviation aircraft. The Airport Authority has approved the construction of two new multi-unit “T” hangars which will include 20 hangar spaces and an additional 5,000 sq. ft. hangar to accommodate a flying club or aircraft maintenance facility. Construction of the new hangars will begin during this year’s construction season and is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2008. “The Airport’s existing “T” Hangars are at capacity and there is a waiting list of over 20 individuals who are seeking hangar space for their aircraft,” said David Langdon, chairman of the Albany County Airport Authority. “This project will further establish Albany International Airport as this region’s center for General Aviation.” The current “T” hangars were opened in 2001 and 2002 and were immediately leased to 20 aircraft owners. The demand for additional aircraft hangar space has continued to grow as additional private and corporate aircraft owners and flying clubs have come to recognize Albany International Airport’s central location, competitive rates and low fuel prices. The “T” hangars will be constructed on the east side of the Airport next to the two existing General Aviation hangars. The site is easily accessible from Exit 5 of the Northway and offers General Aviation pilots quick and easy access to Runway-28, the Airport’s east-west runway. The site is also served by the Airport’s self-fueling station which enables pilots to save on fuel costs by pumping their own fuel and using a credit card for payment. Access to the site will continue to be on Old Niskayuna Road. The project will also include vehicle parking, lighting, signage, security gates and fencing. The entire project will cost $2.6 million. Funding for the project will be provided through the Airport’s Development Fund, previously sold Airport Revenue bonds and a $270,000 grant from the New York State Airport Transportation Bond Act (Air-’99). The construction will be under the direction of BCI Construction of Albany with the pre-fabricated hangars purchased from Erect-A-Tube of Harvard, Illinois. ADVERTISEMENT
