Main Terminal Expansion Project
PROJECT UPDATE – SPRING 2026
A major milestone has been reached in the ongoing transformation of Albany International Airport with the partial opening of the new Departure Hall. Approximately 6,000 square feet of the new space is now open to travelers, including a direct connection to the TSA checkpoint on the second floor and four brand-new escalators connecting the first floor to the expanded departure area.
The Departure Hall is a central component of the Airport’s $100 million Main Terminal Expansion Project, which is designed to create a more efficient, comfortable, and welcoming experience for travelers while modernizing key areas of the terminal.
- Once complete, the 14,000-square-foot Departure Hall will include:
- A relocated TSA checkpoint and expanded queuing area
- A seventh TSA screening lane
- New public restrooms
- A new Dunkin' location
- Direct access to the North Parking Garage
- A signature installation by Hudson Valley artist Jean Shin
Construction continues in phases behind temporary walls and barriers as work progresses throughout the space. In recent weeks, the temporary scaffolding that surrounded portions of the airline ticket counters during construction was fully removed, rmarking another major milestone in ALB's ongoing modernization.

We're proud to have secured this significant funding through the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition and the recent Congress' passage of the infrastructure bill, providing an additional $28.7 million in federal funding. Together, these resources will make our vision for a brighter, more welcoming Albany International Airport a reality.
